Honesty

I couldn't resist collecting some oak leaves from under the old oak tree in the village. It is probably the last, as they are now very thin and brittle, most of them were broken and crumbling. Soon the new buds will burst and new green oak leaves will appear. When I reached home I was too busy to even look at this leaf until late evening, it had then started to curl up in the heat. I sketched it and painted over two days. I have been wanting to draw the honesty seed heads for weeks so I decided to add them to the oak leaf. I found this lovely brown and cream piece of china in the stream and thought it would go well with the leaf too.
I have been busy as we are decorating, and it will be worth it as I am changing my daughters old bedroom into a room for me. A room to be creative in, sew and draw and paint. I usually just sit in the living room by the window. I draw with my book on a board resting on my knee. My clutter close to hand, pencils, paints, sketch books and of course specimens. It will be good to have the new room and my things all together and tidy. And a table by the window.
I am always busy, but lately I really haven't had much time for blogging, reading and visiting others. I am always thrilled to find your comments, so I do want to thank you for giving your time to visit and leave me comments.
Hope you like today's new page in the square book, I have left the honesty and china for you to see. Painted in acrylic paint, press for close up.

Hi Milly, like you I'd fallen behind with blogging, so it's nice to catch up and also to see your latest lovely drawings.

Enjoy creating in your new space. Best wishes, Lesley

I love the whole concept of your square book and its beautifully painted pages...
Although its obviously very personal to you, I think it would be fantastic published as an illustrated journal or diary...
I'd buy it!
Best wishes

Another lovely painting - I've seen seed pods like those before but did not know what they were. I like how you show the original specimens along with the painting. That will be nice for you to have a room for your creative work; I live in a university dorm 8 months of the year and I could certainly use some extra space too!

Hi Milly!
It's been a while since your last post. But you have been so busy and I am so envious! You'll have a room all for yourself and your stuff, how awsome is that!
I hope you'll enjoy it and let us know how it goes...
Another wonderful painting. I really like the honesty seed heads, they look so special.
Warm regards,
Carolina

The honesty seeds to accompany the oak leaf are so appealing--and I see you have slipped in a perfectly complementary shard of pottery, as well. I am always so pleased to see another of your drawings. Enjoy your new room!

Hello to you Milly.

It's grand to see another page from that square book of yours. I sort of love the idea of you drawing or painting in that book, while it's balanced on a board on your knees. I am sure that the new room will grant you even better creative spaces.

Meanwhile, back to this marvelous picture. I grew up knowing "honesty" as "money plant" since the translucent seed containers did look a bit like glittering coins.

It's a wonderful picture that you've made from your observing the honesty, oak leaf and china bits.

What an inspiration you do continue to offer.

Thank you! xo

I like this one a lot, Milly. Honesty is something easily found in these parts, and Gary Oaks cling to the dry rock, spindly and tough. The one thing I won't find around here is a bit of old china, unless it's in my cupboard. These parts are still too new for interesting bits to turn up in a stream or a field.
I, too, am busy turning a bedroom into a guest room/sewing room. It's going slowly!

Life really can become busy making blogging hard to get to. How wonderful that you have a new art room, may it be a muse for you.
This piece is wonderful!
