Poppy Seedhead

I was doing a bit of gardening yesterday and picked some poppy seed heads to draw. I like leaving some until autumn and they become more and more interesting. I collect them at all different states of decay. I really like them when they turn into skeleton, bird cage sort of shapes, with their delicate structure showing. This one is solid and chunky , rather sculptural . It is drawn in pencil.

I loved the exhibition and was so glad we could make it. My only regret was that the older boys couldn't have seen it too. Seeing the drawings on the site just doesn't have the same impact as seeing them for real.
